Koko's intervention provides:
Crisis line resources (and support for those hesitant to use them)
Options for users, regardless of the level of support they need
A support system designed to help people before they reach an emergency state
All of Koko’s resources can be accessed online for free without needing to download an app — making it easier for users to start getting whatever type of support they need.
Data surrounding these interventions is not easily accessible, making it difficult to understand the impact. Research shows that users who don't consider their mental state to be an emergency will be hesitant to engage.
There is no question 988 will change the trajectory of how we respond to those in crisis, but just a new number alone is not enough.

Koko saved my life. I’m forever thankful and deeply grateful for what this community has done for me.
Man, Koko is a freakin’ life changer - no, a life saver (quite literally!)
A lot of people express online that they are struggling, and we don’t yet have a good understanding of how best to provide help and support.
Koko is filling this gap and providing scientifically-supported tools to help those who are struggling. They’re figuring out what works best and then putting it to work to help people.
Mental health is a serious problem, and GIPHY is always trying to ensure our users come away from our platform having had a positive experience.
We are glad that orgs like Koko exist and are actively working to provide accessible assistance for everyone.
I love using this, and I love everyone who created such an amazing community, keep doing the good work, it matters so much.
I have been working with Koko for several years now to develop online resources to help young people facing mental health problems.
I really appreciate what they are doing and how effective they are in reaching and helping young people.
